CAM Decals' focus is modern US aircraft. The Blue Angels have long been a
fixture at major American airshows, so it makes sense that they would capture
the attention of CAM.
CAM's 1/48 scale "Hornets' Nest" sheet offers markings for fourteen aircraft
- all seven Blue Angels team aircraft from the 1987 and the 2001 seasons. It is
interesting that all seven aircraft from the 1987 season had been rotated out by
2001. Six of the aircraft in each season are F/A-18A Hornets, and one is a
F/A-18B two-seater.
Markings are supplied for one complete aircraft. The decals comprise all
seven fin numbers, the large "US Navy" letters for both sides of the lower wing
and behind the intake, Bu Nos and pilot details for below the cockpit. The
yellow trim on the upper deck, fin tips, stabilator tips and wingtips are also
supplied in decal form if the modeler does not feel confident matching the decal
colour with model paint.
The decals are printed on thin material with minimal carrier film.
Registration is not an issue because virtually all of the markings are printed
only in yellow! Instructions are supplied on a single sheet in black and white.
The cardboard cover sheet is provided in colour, and gives a good idea of how
the subjects will look.
This is an attractive and versatile package for anyone wanting to build a
Hornet from a recent Blue Angels season.
