Wildcat Seats Ultracast
Reviewed by Brett Green
Anyone familiar with Ultracast will understand why I am a big fan of their 1/48 scale replacement aircraft seats. The seat is the jewel in the cockpit crown of most models, and Ultracast's seats really provide an injection of quality to an otherwise standard model. These early Wildcat seats are perfectly cast, realistically thin and feature naturally draped moulded lap harnesses that will look fantastic with careful painting. Weld seam and rivet detail is also portrayed well. My favorite technique for painting these resin seats is to pre-paint in overall black, then spray interior green (or whatever colour is applicable) from the top, leaving the edges and recesses in black, and finally picking out harness and buckle detail with a fine brush. A light oil wash in burnt umber will bring out the detail of the harness even more.
This is another winner from Ultracast. As potentially the most visible feature in an open cockpit, this seat will be a worthwhile (but inexpensive) investment for your early Wildcat. Highly recommended. You may view these and other products including photos at Ultracast's Web Site. Thanks to Kevin at Ultracast for the review samples. Review Copyright © 2000 by Brett
