True Details 48506 is another in the series of KMC re-issues. This set provides the modeller with nine resin pieces to replicate one of the US Navy's most widely used aerial torpedoes of World War Two. The pieces comprise the torpedo body, the five stabilizing fins, the two counter rotating propellers and the wooden case that was attached to the rear of the torpedo prior to handling. The parts are crisply cast with engraved detail that will stand out well once treated to a wash with your favourite medium. The only casting imperfection in my sample was two very minor bubbles at the base of the wooden case, which will be easily taken care of during the clean-up and preparation phase of construction. The instruction sheet is clear and concise and contains a painting guide as well construction notes. Packaging is the normal plastic bag and thin cardboard header that we are used to from True Details. Unfortunately, this type of packaging does not protect the thin resin parts all that well and one of the stabilizing fins was detached from the casting block and floating free in the bottom of the bag. This is a great set. I am glad that True Details have re-released it under their own name. I'm sure that many of these torpedos will find their way into dioramas and onto 1/48 US Navy aircraft. This one is destined to grace the underside of one of the wings of my Pro-Modeler PBY-5A. Recommended! Thanks to Squadron® for the review sample.
