One of the identifiable features of the famous P-51 Mustang is the cuffed Hamilton Standard adjustable pitch constant speed propeller. This style of propeller was fitted to virtually all P-51B, C and D aircraft in US units. However, production demands meant that an alternative propeller was required for the P-51D. Aeroproducts therefore designed its own Mustang propeller. This was a completely different shape to the Hamilton Standard, without the characteristic cuffs. Initial trials indicated that the Aeroproducts propeller caused vibration and lower performance. This style of propeller was mainly allocated to Commonwealth units and the Mustang variant was designated P-51K. Red Roo's interest in RAAF subjects have led them to produce the Aeroproducts propeller. This prop was not only used on the P-51K, but also Australian license-built CAC Mustang Mk. 20, 21, 22 and 23. The four prop blades are cast perfectly in shiny, off-white resin. The are attached to a single casting block at the end of each propeller shaft, so clean-up will be no chore. The prop blade shafts are not keyed, as they are designed to fit any P-51D/K model. Instructions are small but provide detail of the Mustang variants that wore this style of propeller, and also warn that the propeller shaft may need to be cuffed for certain models. This will be a useful product for anyone who wants to build a P-51K or CAC Mustang using the Tamiya kit. Recommended.
