Gun Barrels for 1/48 Scale Aircraft
Model Point
Reviewed by Brett Green
Model Point's new 1/48 scale cannon barrels are clever and attractive accessories. Each barrel is spun from solid brass, but additional work has been applied to the parts to ensure an accurate result. The barrel ends are all drilled out and, most pleasingly, the baffle holes in the sides of the integrated muzzle brakes have been drilled out too. This must be a time consuming and labour intensive process. However, it is worth the effort, as the muzzle brakes look great with their precisely drilled holes. It would be next to impossible for the average modeller to obtain results this good. Being in brass, there is absolutely no cleanup of the parts required. Unlike Model Point's first offerings reviewed in September 2000, these new aircraft model accessories require no additional work to the donor aircraft. They are a drop-fit replacement for the kit parts. Additional items scheduled for release include the "tank-buster" 37mm barrel for the Junkers Ju 87G Stuka, and a range of barrels for Hasegawa and Esci's Henschel Hs 129B. All the new items are also in 1/48 scale. The extra effort involved in achieving this precise result is reflected in the relatively high price for such tiny parts, but the true afficiando will love them! Recommended.
