Here is a brief preview of an interesting initiative by a German modeler.

A Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 in 1/24 scale? That is a frequent request from modelers of large-scale Luftwaffe aircraft. The big 1/24 scale Airfix Focke-Wulf Fw 190A kit would logically form the basis for such a conversion

There have been attempts in vacform, and someone has even built one from scratch.

While I was at the Oberschleißheim (part of a German museum near Munich) model-show in March 2001, I saw a highly interesting alternative. A modeler (his job is industrial form-builder) made a conversion kit for the D-9 using the Airfix kit as the basis. I think that this is a great initiative from him.

As the photos show, the complete fuselage is one piece, which must be completed with the parts of the Airfix kit. Ring-coolers, propellers, spinner and exhaust are included - everything the modeler needs for a complete Dora. In my minds eye, I can already see the completed kit in 1/24 in the markings of the JG 300!

According to the information of Mr Gerhard Klebeck, this conversion kit will cost 120 DM. Since I already have an Airfix Fw 190 in my collection, I ordered one of these conversion kits.

If anyone is interested in this conversion, Mr. Klebeck can be contacted by email for more information at Gerhard.Klebeck@t-online.de

I hope that many modelers are interested in this conversion kit and I wish Mr. Klebeck much success with his conversion.
