Sky Models believe in making the most of their decal sets, but 67 choices must
be some sort of record for a single decal sheet!
The Fiat CR.42 is certainly blessed with a terrific variety of colour
schemes. This sheet is representative of most of these schemes - mottles
of green, yellow and brown, solid black, unpainted aluminium, green rings
on yellow. They are all in ample supply. Most of the subjects are Regia
Aeronautica, but schemes are also provided for German, Swedish, British,
Hungarian, Spanish, Belgian and the Italian Co-Beligerant Air Force.
Roundels and fin flashes are supplied for all these alternate
nationalities.
As always, the decals are beautifully printed by Cartograf of Italy. Extreme
care will be required when cutting out the decals as they are quite crowded on
the sheet.
Instructions are provided in a twenty page "booklet" (ten sheets of folded,
photocopied A-4 sheets). The artwork is better than some of Sky Models
Decals' earlier efforts, and the decal numbers are clearly indicated in
the instructions. The most serious limitation of the instructions is that
only one upper-view diagram is supplied. This makes it important to have a
decent reference to confirm markings and camouflage patterns on the upper
surface of the wings. There is a table on the back page of the
instructions with a comprehensive list of Italian CR.42 colours. This
includes cross-references to FS 595A plus model paints from Humbrol, Molak,
Tamiya, Gunze, ModelM and Mr Kit.
Sky Model's 1/72 scale sheet provides high quality and unprecedented
choice for your Fiat CR.42.
Highly Recommended.
