The F-86D Sabre Dog in American service wore some colourful
markings, but there is not much relief from large expanses of natural metal.
Hi-Decal Line's latest release offers a few interesting options
for the F-86D/L in 1/72 and 1/48 scales. The sheet under review is in 1/48
scale, which will be ideal for the excellent recent Revell kit.
Markings for four aircraft are supplied:
-
F-86D-36, 337 Sqn, Royal Hellenic Air
Force, 1965. This aircraft is finished in a disruptive scheme of Dark Green and
Dark Tan - surely an original combination for the Sabre Dog!
-
F-86D-36, 343 Sqn, Royal Hellenic Air
Force, 1963. This aircraft is finished in natural metal with a grass green tail,
black and yellow fuselage band and an Olive Drab anti-glare strip on the forward
upper fuselage.
-
F-86D-36, 8th FIS, 5th Fighter Wing,
Philippine Air Force, 1965. Natural metal with a white fin, brown radome and
intricate Philippine Air Force national markings.
-
F-86L-60, 12 Sqn, Royal Thai Air
Force, 1969. Natural metal with leaping tigers on the nose, and a fin flash with
shooting stars
Instructions are provided on a single folded A4 sheet with black
and white images. I would have preferred to see the colour key on the same page
as the side profiles, but the instructions are otherwise quite satisfactory.
The decals are nicely printed and the carrier film is very thin.
There are sufficient decals to finish one of the Greek aircraft and both the
Thai and Philippine Sabre Dogs.
Hi-Decal Line's 1/48 scale F-86D/L decal sheet will add some
welcome variety to Revell-Monogram's F-86D Sabre Dog.
Recommended.
