F i r s t   L o o k

 

Revell's 1/48 scale F-86D Sabre Dog is an excellent kit. If it has a shortcoming, it is the relative uniformity of finish. Most Sabre Dogs were left in natural metal.

This uniform finish can be greatly enlivened with a set of alternate markings. Cutting Edge has released several sets of decals for this kit that will make your Sabre Dog look very different from its neighbor on the model club display table.

The five options covered in these two decal sets are all colourful and interesting.

The printing is superb, with minimal excess carrier film and perfect registration. 

Instructions are supplied in the usual Cutting Edge Decal style, with a large colour placement diagram for each subject and a smaller supplementary sheet providing additional text tips for perfect application. Stencil markings are not included.

The contents of the sheets are as follows:

CED 48155

Sabre Dog subjects covered in set CED 48155 are:

  1. F-86D s/n 51-6024, 97th FIS Wright Patterson AFB, 1953. 

  2. F-86D s/n 53-1001, 498th FIS, 84th FG, Geiger AFB Washington, 1956

  3. F-86D s/n 51-4105, Yugoslav Air Force. The markings for this aircraft also includes a Black Magic mask for the black nose.

 

 

 

 

 

 

CED 48156

Sabre Dog subjects that are covered in set CED 48156 are:

  1. F-86L s/n 53-0704, Illinois Air National Guard 108th FIS

  2. F-86D s/n 52-4247, 4th FIS, Misiwi AB, Japan. A small supplementary sheet supplies the tail number for this F-86D.

Conclusion

 

These new decals from Cutting Edge are a welcome enhancement for the ProModeler or the Revell Germany boxings of the 1/48 scale F-86D Sabre Dog.
