This sheet is the first instalment in Cutting
Edge’s series of markings for the F-86D.
The sheet provides markings for five different
parabrake-equipped aircraft of the 97th Fighter Interception Squadron
whilst it was based at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 1955.
For your money you get individual serial blocks, serial numbers, side
numbers and individual nose art for five different aircraft in natural
metal finish. On the downside, you only get enough Stars and Bars,
USAF titles, wing-walks and squadron markings for one aircraft.
The package includes a double-sided, full colour instruction sheet to
show placement of the decals as well as a comprehensive sheet of notes
that point out the nuances and idiosyncrasies of the markings worn by
the different aircraft within the squadron. It is the little things
pointed out on this sheet that makes the difference between a plastic
model and a scale replica.

Cutting Edge has also simplified the decalling
procedure by providing the Stars and Bars and USAF titles already cut
apart so that they can be applied to open airbrakes and around the
wing fences.
Make no mistake - this is an excellent sheet as it is comes. However,
Cutting Edge could make it even better if they were to provide a basic
set of stencil data, and perhaps even an anti-glare panel.
Recommended.
