Cutting Edge has produced a 1/32 scale ESCAPAC
ejection seat for the large Hasegawa A-4 kit.
This is the 1C version of the ESCAPAC seat
which was normally fitted to “middle” versions of the Skyhawk such as the –F,
-G, -H, and TA-4 series. The seat is available both with (CEC 32080) and without
(CEC 32081) seatbelts. Each set consists of one seat and a small sprue of add-on
bits. The sprue contains the following parts:
There are no instructions provided with the
seat. Normally this isn’t a problem with seats as most people can usually figure
out where things like the ejection handles should go, but those who aren’t
familiar with the seat may be a little confused on the headknocker and the
inertia reel cartridge. The headknocker is the curved piece that projects
forward from the bottom of the center vertical depression of the headrest and
the inertia reel cartridge is the small rod that projects horizontally from a
hole on the right side of the headrest. Note that there is normally a cable
running from the inertia reel cartridge and the small shelf projecting from the
side of the seat just below which the modeler may wish to add.
The ESCAPAC seat was also fitted to early F-15s and A-10s, however these were
later versions with features like canopy breakers and the “ear-burner” seat
separation rocket that are not included in this set.
A quick check indicates that the CE seat will fit into the cockpit tub of the
Hasegawa A-4E/F kit after the bottom portion of the seat molded into the tub is
removed. Recommended.
