Dutch
Decal's sheet K4/1 is the first in a series that focuses on RAF, FAA and
Royal Navy subjects.
This sheet covers includes natural metal Mustang IV (P-51D) in RAF
service in overall silver with blue trim and blue and white chequers on
the nose. The name "Dooleybird" in large red letters adorn the
port fuselage side. This should be a popular choice for Tamiya's or
Hasegawa's excellent P-51 kits.
A Tempest Mk. II (the Centaurus radial engine variant) in natural metal
is also included. This aicraft features a red spinner and code letters,
with post-war "D" type roundels and large black underwing
serials. The Eduard kit can be converted to this version of the Tempest
using MDC's conversion, but I have been advised that it is a tough build!
The choice of five Sabres rounds out this decal sheet.
There are some
very interesting squadron markings and fuselage flashes over Dark Green and
Dark Sea Grey upper surfaces. One Natural Metal Sabre is also included.
These will provide some great alternate markings for modellers wanting to build
Hasegawa's F-86F-30 Sabre with the 6-3 wing.
Dutch Decal should be congratulated for making the subtle distinction
between the Dull Red used on wartime roundels compared to the brighter
roundel red on the post-war "D" type markings.
Registration is good except for the Mustang's blue and white chequered
nose. Even so, the problem is slight and will be easily managed by a
little judicious trimming with a hobby knife.
This decal sheet represents an inexpensive opportunity to customise
your Mustang, Sabre and Tempest II models.
Recommended.
