I have already built one of Aeroclub's vacform Meteors, and I have two night fighters in the building queue. These are great kits, but the choice of markings and accessories is limited due to their limited-run nature. Dutch Decal has come to the rescue with their "RAF/2" special sheet. This small-format (3" x 8"), limited production decal sheet includes a range of the colourful fuselage markings carried by RAF fighter Squadrons of the 1950s, plus individual aircraft ID letters.
Nine subject aircraft are covered - 3 x F.8s, 2 x NF11s, 1 x NF13 and 3 x NF14s. Apart from the colourful unit panels, some of the schemes are interesting in their own right. They include an NF14 with large sections of Dayglo Orange, and another with a black fin. I was pelased to see a few Medium Sea Grey and Dark Green schemes for the NF11 too. To keep the cost of these limited-run sheets down, RAF roundels and serial numbers are not included. National markings are supplied in Aeroclub's kits anyway. My sample was well printed, but had some tiny registration problems on one set of markings. However, this could easily be touched up with a fine brush and some red paint. Dutch Decal's Meteor Special is a brave and welcome product that offers the modeller greater choice when building Aeroclub's lovely 1/48 scale vacform kits. Recommended.
