Victory Productions first decal release is designed for the Hasegawa 1/48
scale F4U-5/5N and (presumably forthcoming) AU-1 Corsairs.
A
large, single decal sheet or 11" x 8" is supplied along with a tiny
supplementary sheet. Seven subjects are packed onto this sheet. The decals are
printed in Italy by Cartograf. As is usual from this firm, the colours are
beautifully saturated, the registration is perfect and carrier film is kept to
an absolute minimum.
Considering the overwhelmingly blue theme associated with these later
Corsairs, Victory Productions have done a good job with the variety of finishes.
The first subject is a Marines AU-1 in grey and white. There is another Marines
AU-1 in overall Gloss Sea Blue with an arrow on the upper forward fuselage. Five
F4U-5Ns make up the balance of the sheet - BuNo 124453 of VC-3 in overall Sea
Blue with "toned down" markings in light blue, BuNo 122186 "Sleepless Knight",
another overall blue machine with a grey radome cover; a black Corsair with red
markings, BuNo 123176; an Argentinean aircraft attractively decorated with blue
and white tail control surfaces and large white Armada markings; and finally a
Honduran veteran of the "Soccer War" of 1969.
The instruction sheet is printed on glossy paper. One side is filled with
well-presented colour artwork, and the reverse provides comprehensive colour
notes and background on each aircraft.
The sheet also offers a bonus marking for a small extra charge, via a
supplementary ALPS printed sheet of black markings for a grey and white
Argentinean F4U-5. Directions for purchasing this limited-edition supplement are
supplied on the decal instructions.
Victory Productions Corsair decal set is a professionally presented product
that will be of great interest to anyone building Hasegawa's F4U-5N kit.
Highly Recommended.
