FirstLook

Cutting Edge's replacement resin seats for WWII fighter aircraft share the same high quality casting and crisp detail as their other accessories. There are no moulding imperfections on my samples at all.

The seats are cast as a single piece onto a fairly chunky block. A razor saw will be required to carefully remove the seats.

Each set comprises two parts. The Tempest and Fw 190 sets include two seats, while the P-40/P-36 and P-47 sets feature a separate seat and rear mounting frame. There is a little flash to clean up on each frame but the seats can be used straight off the casting block.

As implied by the title, the Beaufighter set includes one Pilot's and one Observer's seat. The Observer's seat is of the high back variety - some Beaufighter's had a simpler pan-style Observer's seat.

Although the Focke-Wulf seats are labelled as "Fw 190A/D", they are equally suitable for the Fw 190F/G, or Ta 152C/H, or even for the Pilot's and Radar Operator's seats in the Ta 154.

Harnesses are moulded on in all cases.

No instructions are supplied. This is not surprising for a single-piece accessory but it would be nice to have a painting guide included.

Conclusion

Cutting Edge's 1/48 scale seats live up to the high standards of their other resin parts. These seats will be a worthwhile and prominent accessory for any modeller working on the subject models.
