Cutting Edge Modelworks has just released five new sheets for 1/32 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109s and one for 1/48 scale Friedrichs and Gustavs.

The most intriguing aspect of these new releases is that they include early Bf 109Gs and even a few Bf 109Fs. The only version of the terrific new Hasegawa 1/32 scale Bf 109 available today is the G-6 variant, with the G-14 available this month. What could this mean? Is Cutting Edge trying to tell us something?

Each decal set includes large and attractive colour side profiles for each subject, brief text descriptions and model paint cross-reference for the camouflage colours.

The decals are beautifully printed in perfect register and with minimal carrier film.

The specific subjects are listed below. Click the thumbnails to view larger versions of the instruction sheets.:

CED 48168 - Friedrichs & Gustavs

1/48 scale Bf 109 subjects covered in set CED 48164 are:

  1. White 10 - Bf 109G-6 Standard grey finish with white comet and trail on forward fuselage

  2. Black 8 - Bf 109F-4/Trop. Segmented upper surface finish, possibly in 75 Grey-Violet and 80 Olive Green

Bf 109F and G subjects covered in set CED 32030 are:

  1. Yellow 7 - Bf 109G-4 Trop finished in 78, 79 and 80. The Yellow 7 has been painted directly over the old marking (Red 5)

  3. Black 9 - Bf 109F-2. originally in a grey finish with partial winter white overpainting

1/32 scale Bf 109 subjects are the same as those covered in set CED 48164:

  1. White 10 - Bf 109G-6 Standard grey finish with white comet and trail on forward fuselage

  2. Black 8 - Bf 109F-4/Trop. Segmented upper surface finish, possibly in 75 Grey-Violet and 80 Olive Green

  3. White 11 - Bf 109F-4/B. A Jabo with a bomb emblem on the rear fuselage

  4. White 3 - Bf 109F-4/B. A Jabo with a bomb emblem and the island of Malta on the rear fuselage

Conclusion

These new decal sheets provide yet more excuses to build another large scale Hasegawa Bf 109G or three. I do like the variety offered by the Italian and Hungarian aircraft, and the inclusion of the Bf 109F decal options is tantalising!

Recommended.

Many thanks to Meteor Productions for the review samples.
